Pilot River Basin Management Plans

River basin management plan is a tool to ensure the integrated management of water resources. It sets out principles and activities to improve water environment among water agencies, stakeholders and public at large.
Azerbaijan is a downstream country in Kura and Aras river basins. Kura and Aras rivers cross Turkey, Armenia, Georgia and Iran before entering into Azerbaijan. The both rivers discharge to Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan face with constant water scarcity conditions. Since, ensuring the integrated water management and improving the resources efficiency are the key priorities to Azerbaijan. In that context, Azerbaijan has already developed river basin management plans for three river basin districts; Gəncəçay, Central Kura Basin and Alazan/Qanıx river basin district.

Pilot River Basin Management Plan for the Ganjachay River basin

The river basin management plan contains information on delineation of water bodies, state of water resources, pressures on water bodies and identifes program of measures.

River Basin Management Plan for the Central Kura Basin District of Azerbaijan

The plan has been developed with the financial support from the European Union. It delinates water bodies, state of water resources, pressures on water bodies and identifes program of measures.
In Azerbaijan, the EU-funded programme European Union Water Initiative Plus is developing a draft RBMP for the Kura upstream Mingachevir Dam river basin district.

Pilot River Basin Management Plan for the Alazan/Ganikh river basin, Azerbaijan

The paln is an output of a joint activity with Georgia, containing water body delination, water resources assessment and program of measures together with the bilateral cooperation for integrated water resources management.
